MAXCOM (Max Communications) is a telecommunications company from the island of Roatán. It grew from humble roots into the largest cable and data provider in the Bay Islands.

From VHS tapes to fiber optics.

More than three decades connecting Roatán, told in six moments.

  1. 1989Sat Mc'

    An idea in Oak Ridge

    Charles L. McNab, a shrimp boat captain, was looking for an income for the off-season. There was no cable on the island: restaurants held "movie nights" with VHS tapes brought from the United States. That is how Sat Mc' was born: the tapes were changed by hand and broadcast to the small community of Oak Ridge.

  2. 1991Live signal

    The year that changed everything

    1991 changed our history forever, and Roatán's too: a satellite was repositioned and the island could receive live cable television.

  3. 2005MAX Communications

    A new generation

    Duane McNab came home from university, took over from his father as president and renamed the company MAX COMMUNICATIONS. Back then it served just over 800 subscribers and only offered cable television.

  4. 20105Play

    Fiber optics and internet

    Years of hard work and technical upgrades: bilingual local and international programming, TV went from analog to digital and, above all, data arrived. In 2010 fiber optics and wireless internet were added: MAXCOM became a 5Play company.

  5. 2018Utila

    Across to Utila

    MAXCOM expanded to its neighbouring island, Utila.

    We serve more than 10,000 subscribers and over 70% of Roatán's cable subscribers. From a small warehouse we grew to 5 offices, and we keep growing every day.
